Our story is simple. A few years ago, the kids expressed interest in taking an animal to our local fair in Wayne County, Ohio but really weren't sure what they were interested in. During the Fair that year, I remember taking them from barn to barn to look at the various animals there, and as soon as we made it into the goat barn, we were ALL hooked instantly! We started with two (a doe and a wether), Schwartz and Tippy, who will remain with us forever. They are the true "king and queen" of our barn. We have other favorites for one reason or another (yes, I know, we should not have "favorites"), but I can honestly say that the personalities of all of the goats are different, and each has their own way of putting a smile on our face. For instance, Schwartz will find a way every day to be creative in his attempts to maybe get a little more grain than he should. Half Pint loves to do chores with us and follows us as we feed and clean pens hoping for possibly one more animal cracker than the others. Shelbee is the "mover and shaker" in the barn, and by that I mean she has one speed, and it is s-l-o-w. Zoey loves to go on UTV rides and is sure to sit on Laurie's lap as Tom drives around the barn making stops. Mariska is quiet but sure to wait her turn, patiently, to get 1:1 attention. We adore each and every one of our goats and enjoy the laughter and happiness that they seem to have the ability to give us, even when life isn't at its best.
We are members of the OPGA (Ohio Pygmy Goat Association) and the NPGA (National Pygmy Goat Association). We are also members of the Keystone Pygmy Goat Club, the East Coast Pygmy Goat Club, and the Crossroads Pygmy Goat Club. The OPGA and NPGA offers a wealth of information to people who are interested in owning pygmy goats, becoming breeders, show techniques, health/vaccination care, etc. We would encourage anyone who is interested in owning a pygmy, be it for show, pet or for 4-H, to visit the NPGA website and become a member!
